Abstract
Newspaper directories produced and published annually in contemporary 19th Britain by advertising agent Charles Mitchell. Newspapers listed primarily listed in alphabetical order of the town the newspaper where the title was published. Information for each title included: features connected with the district such as population and trade; principal towns in district; title, price, day of publication; politics; date of first issue; political leanings and special interests; proprietors and publishers. Some overseas titles information also included in selected years.
The file consists of the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) text in XML format for annual volume of The Newspaper Press Directory (1846-1880). There are some gaps in the annual run when the press directory was not published. The Newspaper Press Directory was an annual directory listing newspapers and other journals published in the UK. It changed its name to Benn's Press Directory in 1978, Benn's Media Directory in 1986, and Benn's Media in 1993. It continued as an annual print publication until 2018.
