This dataset contains full text and metadata after processing by the Alto2Text pipeline created by the Living with Machines Project. The pipeline took as its input the highly verbose AltoXML files of the same newspaper titles and converted them into the more readable plain text format for the benefit of readers and researchers. It contains plaintext for one year of British Miner and General Newsman. The full digitised newspapers comprises no. 1-25 (13 Sep.1862 - 28 Feb.1863) (British Miner and General Newsman), no. 1-14 (7 Mar.1863 � 6 Jun.1863) (Miner), no.15-130 (13 June 1863-2 Sept.1865) (Miner and Workman's Advocate), no.131-152 (9 Sept.1865-3 Feb.1866) (Workman's Advocate), no. 153-226 (10 Feb.1866 � 20 Jul.1867) (The Commonwealth). The digitised page images are available on the British Newspaper Archive website, https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/titles/british-miner-and-general-newsman The British Newspaper Archive pages images are behind a paywall, but from March 2021 the paywall will be lifted and eventually some of these images will be free to view.
