The file consists of the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) text in XML format for one year of The Runcorn Examiner. The full digitised newspapers comprises 2 Apr.1870 � 19 Aug.1876 (Runcorn and Widnes Examiner), 6 Jan.1877 � 24 Dec.1920 (Runcorn Examiner). The period 1921 - 1954, after which the title was discontinued, has yet to be digitised. The digitised page images for years 1870 - 1920 are available on the British Newspaper Archive website, https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/titles/runcorn-examiner The newspaper continued until 1901, but this has not been included in the dataset due to copyright considerations. The British Newspaper Archive pages images are behind a paywall, but from March 2021 the paywall will be lifted and some of these titles will eventually be free to view.
