This dataset contains full text and metadata after processing by the Alto2Text pipeline created by the Living with Machines Project. The pipeline took as its input the highly verbose AltoXML files of the same newspaper titles and converted them into the more readable plain text format for the benefit of readers and researchers. It contains plaintext for one year of Swansea Journal and South Wales Liberal. The full digitised newspapers comprises no.182-195 (7 Jan.1893 - 8 Apr.1893) (The South Wales Liberal and Swansea Journal.), 15 Apr.1893 - 29 Dec.1894; 7 Jan.1899 - 26 Aug.1902. (Swansea Journal and South Wales Liberal.) The newspaper continued after 1901, but this has not been included in the dataset due to copyright considerations. The period from 1890 to 1893 has not been digitised. The digitised page images are available on the British Newspaper Archive website, https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/titles/swansea-journal-and-south-wales-liberal The British Newspaper Archive pages images are behind a paywall, but from March 2021 the paywall will be lifted and eventually some of these images will be free to view.
