The file consists of the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) text in XML format for one year of The Birkenhead News and Wirral General Advertiser. The full digitised newspaper comprises no. 57-7872 (1 June 1878-27 June 1956). The digitised page images are available on the British Newspaper Archive website, https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/titles/birkenhead-news The British Newspaper Archive pages images are behind a paywall, but from March 2021 the paywall will be lifted and some of these images will be eventually free to view. The years currently included in this dataset are 1878-1879. The newspaper continued beyond 1879 but this has not been included in this dataset due to copyright considerations.
