The file consists of the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) text in XML format for one year of Widnes Examiner. The full digitised newspapers comprises 264 Aug.1876 - 24 Dec.1920. The period 1921 - 1954, after which the title was discontinued, has yet to be digitised. The digitised page images for years 1876 - 1920 are available on the British Newspaper Archive website, https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/titles/widnes-examiner The British Newspaper Archive pages images are behind a paywall, the current dataset comprises 1876 - 1901. The newspaper continued until 1901, but this has not been included in the dataset due to copyright considerations
