Abstract
The objectives of this study are to frame open research skills and competencies for cultural heritage professionals by identifying their needs and requirements, and to design a training programme that will be easily utilised by those cultural heritage organisations (and specifically those that are IROs) seeking to establish or expand open scholarship, and the sharing of their research outputs through improved use of research repositories. This will help share knowledge and facilitate best practice across the entire cultural sector. The scope of this work is limited to cultural heritage organisations, their staff, and the skill requirements to develop and maintain research repository services in order to share and communicate their research. For clarity regarding the terminology used in this study: cultural heritage organisations are formed of galleries, libraries, archives, and museums and the common terminology for this set of organisations is GLAM. The terms ‘cultural heritage organisations’ and ‘GLAMs’ are used interchangeably in this report.
