Abstract
ANTONIO GENESIO MARIA PANIZZI was born on 16 September 1797 in the little town of Brescello in the Duchy of Modena in northern Italy. Though no more than the son of the local chemist, he had received a sound education, in Brescello itself, in Reggio, and at the University of Parma, where in August 1818 he took his degree in jurisprudence.
