Abstract
'Developing Identifiers for Heritage Collections ' is a tool aimed at heritage professionals to support decision making for persistent identifier (PID) use. The project’s 2020 survey found the value of PIDs, for example in creating trustworthy links, was understood but needs to be more clearly addressed directly to decision makers within cultural heritage institutions. Choosing an appropriate PID can be difficult, so the project developed a description of institutional requirements, defined to several levels of complexity and matched them to the features of various PIDs.
