Abstract
AI4LAM is a collaborative framework for libraries, archives and museums to organise, share and elevate their knowledge about and use of artificial intelligence. The AI4LAM Fantastic Futures conferences have been advancing an open collaboration on AI since 2018.
Fantastic Futures 2025 was hosted at the British Library between 3-5 December 2025 and focused on the theme of “AI Everywhere, All at Once”. The aim was to promote interdisciplinary conversations that foster broader understandings of AI methods, practices and technologies and enable critical reflections about collaborative approaches to research and practice.
The organising committee received hundreds of proposals, and ultimately 80 talks and posters were presented at the conference: 6 long (20 minute) presentations, 21 short (10 minute) presentations, 18 lightning (5 minute) talks, 19 posters and 16 one or two hour workshops.
The presentations and workshops reflected organisations, collections, interest and experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies applied to or developed with cultural, research and heritage collections. This included practitioners in the GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) sector and Digital Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, Data, Information and Computer Science researchers in Higher Education.
The conference was organised and programmed by Neil Fitzgerald, Mia Ridge and Rossitza Atanassova, with support from the British Library’s Digital Research team and other staff.
