Abstract
A set of manuscript letters in the British Library (Add. MS. 46721) which consist of the correspondence between Aleksandra Feodorovna, the last Empress of Russia, and the English Bishop William Boyd Carpenter are used with other sources to illuminate the Empress's very personal ideas on religion. These were of considerable significance in the events of her husband's reign but have rarely been fully explored and contextualized.
