Abstract
The identity of the author of the famous article, 'Foreign Views of the Catholic Question', which appeared in The Foreign Quarterly Review in April 1829, gave rise to much contemporary debate. It has traditionally been attributed to the high church cleric Hugh James Rose. However, neither its contents or style support this view. A letter preserved amongst the Holland House Papers now reveals its actual writer to be James Murray, a journalist on The Times.
