Developing Workflows to Publish Collections as Data

This presentation outlines the importance of making digital collections available for computational use, emphasising the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and CARE (Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, Ethics) principles. He introduces a workflow designed to help medium-sized and small organisations publish collections as data, highlighting its iterative and systematic approach.

The workflow includes steps such as providing clear licenses, suggested citations, documentation, using public platforms like Zenodo, sharing examples of use, and incorporating machine-readable metadata. Candela also discusses the Social Science and Humanities Open Marketplace as a platform for publishing workflows and the European Data Space for Cultural Heritage project. Future steps involve refining the workflow, creating a machine-readable version, and establishing a Dariah working group focused on Wikidata and Wikibase. Candela’s work aims to reduce barriers and promote best practices in the publication of digital collections for computational research.
