Abstract
  • The Liverpool-based Northern Daily Times (1853-1861, with two changes of title) was the first provincial daily newspaper in England to enjoy a sustained run. It was also one of the very first one penny dailies.

Holdings: 24 Sept. 1853-6 June 1857; Northern Times. Holdings: 8 June 1857-18 Feb.1860; The Daily Times: Holdings: 20 Feb. 1860-30 Jan. 1861. The digitised page images are available on the British Newspaper Archive website, https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/titles/northern-daily-times The British Newspaper Archive pages images are behind a paywall, but in 2021 the paywall is expected to be lifted for this title and eventually all the newspapers we are digitising under the Heritage Made Digital programme.
