Abstract
The COAR Notify project, which emerged from the Next Generation Repositories initiative, aims to enhance the role of repositories in scholarly infrastructure by leveraging existing web technologies rather than creating new ones. Key principles include maintaining a distributed network of repositories to prevent monopolistic control, ensuring inclusiveness, and promoting public good.
COAR Notify uses Linked Data Notifications (LDN) to connect repositories with services like peer review and endorsement. This technology allows repositories to send and receive asynchronous messages, facilitating interactions without duplicating content. The project has seen successful implementations with services like Peer Community In (PCI), which endorses preprints through community reviews.
The initiative is supported by Arcadia and aims to be cost-effective and system-agnostic, ensuring interoperability and scalability. Current developments include integrations with platforms like Zenodo, EPrints, and PubPub. The overarching goal is to create a flexible, distributed, and sustainable infrastructure for scholarly communication.
